Photo – Helping a Quadriplegic

Cory is a 35 year old quadriplegic who suffered a gun shot to the neck.  He was moderately myopic with astigmatism with vision of 20/counting fingers (worse than 20/800).  Contact Lenses made his eyes extremely irritated so he was unable to wear them.  Glasses would constantly fall off of his nose because of the difficulty he has maintaining a “normal” head position.

LASIK surgery was donated by Dr. Elkins and Ophthalmology Associates of the Valley.  The procedure required quite a bit of planning because extra help was needed to position Cory, some of the laser equipment had to be moved, and special equipment had to be brought to the LASIK center.  The surgery was performed successfully in March, 2010.  Cory has done beautifully postoperatively with 20/20 vision.

He no longer needs glasses!
